My practice is concerned with the current inequality within society and capitalism that is voiding cities of its humanity. This focus is investigated through examining Dublin’s changing urban landscape and its obvious obsession with office spaces. As dwellings are replaced by high rise offices and luxury apartments driving out local communities, Dublin is becoming less welcoming for people to live in.
Photography is an integral part of my practice: my sources are pictures taken while walking through Dublin. I look at where old meets new; where red brick houses are being engulfed by office buildings crowned by cranes.
The medium of ink is unpredictable and hard to control, its fluidity is at odds with the solidity of steel and concrete. Along with fineliners and markers, experimentation on a range of different surfaces creates dramatic ink skies over empty office blocks where workers opt to work from home, away from the sterile environment imagined for them.
