My work consists of painting and video work based on family negatives and photographs. The images fade and merge, allowing landscape and bodies to become one. The work has an emotional charge and a sense of the uncanny.
In an era marked by the rapid dissemination and auto curation of images today, these negatives emphasise ‘slow time’, the kind of time needed to process and self-curate. My work seeks to process the trauma of loss- be it due to death, covid or dementia. Society has not had the opportunity to process the effect of COVID-19, it may become another buried or lost memory.
