Recovering Perfectionist
Presenting myself as a visual narrator, I use ink, paper, graphite, and white paint as part of my practice. Although the scale is large, the work is intimate. My handwritten lettering switches between hidden and revealed.
Using ink and white paper with gesso, I demonstrate the effect of sinking into the paper with ink, or laying on top of the gesso. The monochromatic nature of most of my work testifies to the false or truth binary of memory recall.
In Isabelle Graw’s book, ‘The Love of Painting’, I became fascinated with the close bond between the artist and the work, the idea of personal vitalistic fantasy projected onto lifeless material. Between the complexity of energy and dramatic erasure means at times, I can be left with a nothingness, or a depression.
