Atheist Pilgrimage
“A profane existence is never found in the pure state. To whatever degree he may have desacralized the world, the man who has made his choice in favour of a profane life never succeeds in completely doing away with religious behaviour" -Mircea Eliade, ‘The Sacred and The Profane’
‘Atheist Pilgrimage’ takes an honest look at what a pilgrimage can involve for a non-religious person, and asks; can a pilgrimage ever truly be separated from religion?
Through a nonfiction narrative structure, this project both examines the non-religious healing aspects of pilgrimage; human connection, spatial movement, solitude, and admits that planet earth is a deeply religious place, whether we like it or not.
My design practice explores complex subject matter through storytelling, using both illustration and the written/spoken word to create work that intends to both entertain and inform.
