This project celebrates the creativity of 11 primary school children from Finglas who are passionate about art. Through the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) programme, they have connected with the NCAD community and 11 artists. Engaging in an after-school art club; holiday camp, they have been immersed in 50 hours of enriching art experiences.
These opportunities, facilitated through a socially engaged art project, are otherwise inaccessible. Inspired by the children’s life-sized self-portraits, wooden sculptures adorned with Finglas landmarks, are crafted alongside a symbolic black cube representing a potential arts centre for Finglas. Additionally, 5,300 miniature bears symbolise the community’s primary school children. This initiative advocates for an inclusive Finglas arts centre, fostering artistic expression and connecting children with transformative and enriching cultural experiences. We call for funding to sustain this after-school art programme for all children, nurturing creativity and enriching young lives in our local community.
