Liminal Landscapes
My project explores ideas of coexistence, cultures, and identities that live within an individual. As an expat in Ireland living in a place of different cultural ethos, I understand the contrast and parallels of two worlds and in turn watch third culture kids grow with the puzzles and complexities of identity formation that result.
In large mixed-media paintings, leaving intentional blank spaces that echo the voids within, I aim to convey a sense of both chaos and structure. I use layering to express how these contrasting planes intersect, intertwine, and sometimes clash. I draw inspiration from photography, street art, repeating patterns and everyday familiarities.
Another dimension of this duality is the experimentation with abstract and representational forms, seeking harmony amid chaos, reality within imagination. I want my work to encourage viewers to see something outside of their own internal viewpoint, and to consider the disorientation of others.
