Sarah Byrne is a socially engaged artist and part time student on the MA in Art and Social Action. Sarah’s practice is firmly rooted in processes of making, and collective making, and she is a believer in the use of textile art as a way of bringing people together. Sarah’s work aims to raise awareness about social issues, investigating complex topics while using simple materials, found objects and clothing, disrupting the normalising of issues through crudeness and humour. In her first year of the MA, Sarah’s practice-based research has been concerned with contemporary issues of inequality for women, creating an interactive textile work for a table top, intended to promote conversation on women’s issues. She also worked with three of her peers on the MA - Sinead Clancy, Rukmini Kelkar and Fiona O’Neil to co-create a local feminist utopian newspaper Liberty Belle News.
