Declare Your Digital Footprint
Digital technology accounts for 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions, on par with the aviation industry, and this figure is expected to double by 2025, reaching 8%. Irish designers are largely unaware of the environmental impact of their digital technology usage, and this impact is not currently measured within 'B Corps' standards. The goal of 'Declare Your Digital Footprint' is to promote digital sustainability accountability among designers by implementing measurement tools in digital design practices.
The project educates designers on digital waste through a thorough analysis of the most impactful areas within an organisation. The Design Declares team compiles a report with actionable and measurable recommendations for reducing digital waste organisation-wide. The resulting statistics and improvements are published on the Design Declares website, showcasing positive change and inspiring others to follow suit. This initiative aims to foster a culture of sustainability and drive industry-wide adoption of best practices for managing and minimising digital waste.
