Mapping Memories
My work focuses on psychogeography and explores how the places we visit can shape and inform our identities. My interest in this topic began while discussing the work of Richard Long with students during a school placement, and my ideas have flourished from there.
Through this project, I have used embroidery to track my movements over a span of 100 days, constructing a narrative of my daily life and the changes that have taken place in that time. I have employed a combination of hand and machine embroidery, alongside natural dyeing processes and recycled materials, to create artworks that reflect both the urban and rural scenes I have encountered throughout this project.
Rachel Madden is a textile embroidery artist and art educator.
