Exploring wilderness in paint and print
With a keen focus on wilderness conservation, my practice explores the natural landscape and its constituent natural forms. The camera acts as a notebook, documenting my travels and hiking expeditions.
The body of work consists of acrylic painting on canvas and intaglio prints made from etchings on aluminium plates. The prints were produced at the Leinster Printmaking Studio, of which I am a member.
In my paintings, I explore the use of colour in the rendering of landscapes that convey a sense of experience. This is emphasised through the use of various shades of colour that depart from the natural colours in the landscape, and from primary and secondary colours.
