Continuity Shot
'Continuity Shot', initiates a dialogue between film and philosophy, unravelling the intricacies of human emotion and perception as they intersect with cinema. By deconstructing cinematic tropes and narratives, I invite viewers to contemplate the emotional and societal constructs embedded within our media consumption, provoking contemplation of the blurred boundaries between reality and representation in our media-saturated world, highlighting the interplay between filmic and constructed realities.
With a focus on the romantic-tale-spectacle, the work plays on themes of nostalgia and girlishness, depicting scenes of iconic 2000’s rom-coms. Using a monochrome palette with hints of colour placed throughout, the viewer is placed in a space between the dreamlike fantasy of the viewing experience, and the constructed reality of the filmmaking process. By displaying painted film stills alongside continuity shots and body doubles, the viewer is invited to contemplate the pervasive presence of media, whilst enjoying the fantasy and hopefulness of film.
