Small Corners of the Earth
Through research, my practice looks closely at how the tether between ourselves and the organic world is deteriorating. We think of nature as an external force, designating parks and trails within cities and metropolitan areas, meaning true immersion is often elusive. This disconnect led me to think about the psychological impact of location, investigating my own estrangement to rural regions, realising the contrasting feelings I experience when surrounded by developed infrastructure.
My work aims to reclaim a space for the natural world, on the walls we built atop of it. Painting is intuitive, and I use earth tones and unrestricted movements paired with artificial colours that incorporate man-made mediums, in an effort to depict the chaos of the world’s natural environment and our interference with it.
Painting with a sense of liberation and instinct, it is my hope that the work reflects my inner sentiments and inspires subconscious thoughts that evoke the senses of the viewer.
