Present
My practice stems from an examination of time through the theme of ‘present’. Our present is an accumulation of a past time that penetrates through us, but is no longer physically tangible. People are vehicles that carry the energy of their past in the form of memories, which is often expressed through emotion. Our lives and experiences are transient.
This body of work was inspired by objects from my childhood home and electricity pylons from the locality where I grew up. Inspiration is drawn from Louise Bourgeois’s ‘The Spider’, Mona Hatoum’s installations and Chiharu Shiota’s thread installations that illustrate memory and residue from burnt objects. Through the use of printing, stencilling technique, collage and thread, I reference these influences in my work.
