Why Don't You Just Stay?
As more and more generations of Irish youth continue to be forced into emigration, the concept of leaving Ireland has become a staple reality of Irish culture itself. Whilst an ever-present issue spanning generations, very little has been done to help resulting in those affected being reduced to a statistic.
The publication, entitled ‘Why Don’t You Just Stay?’ is an illustrated collection of personal accounts, interviews, short surveys and conversations of those affected. The work examines the human experience of emigration and the real-world effects it has on people’s lives.
Accompanied by a colourful and accessible wearable textile form that doubles as a protest banner, the project moves into a more playful protest space. A sticker/ postcard series further moves the project into the public space, acting as an open source form of not just protest, but assurance that those affected around the world are not alone.
