Unseen Realities
Delve into the peculiar and vibrant objects of inflated surgical gloves, vessels of water, synthetic materials and natural textures, all a part of the unseen reality and alternative treatments of life with chronic pain. My intention is to create a sense of limbo, an illusion of space, to portray the disconnection between my body and the surrounding world through my experience of having an invisible illness.
Through expressive paint pouring and deliberate areas of unfinished composition, I convey the interplay between restricted movement and the quest for bodily autonomy. This is established by using a reduced and vibrant colour palette creating a distorted environment. Exploring colour symbolism and evoking certain emotions, such as red having associations to both love and pain and blue having connotations to calmness and melancholy. Even though it remains invisible, the traces are interwoven within the surrealism and symbolic objects present in my practice.
