Naloxone Ireland
'Naloxone Ireland' is a campaign to increase awareness and accessibility of naloxone, an opioid antagonist. This campaign advocates for naloxone to be available over the counter, not just by prescription. Today in Ireland, opioid addiction leads to an average of one death per day due to overdose.
Naloxone can reverse an overdose quickly to allow time for medical help. Despite its global success in saving thousands of lives and its safety, naloxone remains prescription-only in Ireland, limiting access to those who might urgently need or want it for both themselves or others.
My work is driven by personal connections to addiction and a pharmaceutical background. It includes a publication, a poster series, a website, and a petition increasing awareness of this drug and urging the government to improve access.
This work asks the question: shouldn’t a life-saving antidote be accessible to all?
