To Understand Touch, We Must Remember How It Feels To Breathe
To understand touch, we must remember how it feels to breathe, without a breath the lungs don’t move, without movement our systems close down (Cammock, 2022). Just like we need to breathe to live, we must touch to feel alive.
My practice is an investigation of the significance of intimacy and touch in our lives. I delve into the intricate layers of human connection, exploring the essential need for tactile experiences and the profound impact they have on our well-being. In a world where physical distancing and virtual interactions increasingly dominate our engagements, I am drawn to unravelling the complexities of touch deprivation and its consequences on our mental, emotional, and physical health.
Ultimately, my practice is a tribute to our innate yearning for connection and how we often disregard touch as an essential need. Through tactile sculptures, evocative videos and immersive installations, viewers are invited to immerse themselves in the tender embrace of a shared moment, allowing them to consider what intimacy really means to them.
