De-Construction
My practice centres around the investigation and research of derelict and exposed sites, primarily in coastal locations. The progressive course of denudation of materials and structures over time, is of crucial concern.
The work is created through found materials harvested from various locations. Having been exposed to the elements they display strong sculptural shapes and physicality. Fragments of wood inform my colour palette and suggest striking organic and ambiguous shapes. These compelling qualities are represented through abstract painting, collage and a wider mixed media approach.
The role of suggestion and gestural mark-making form an influential motivating impetus. Installation of the work often includes placing found material pieces alongside my paintings.
