Postoperative Care for Lower Limb Trauma Patients
I am working with The Mater Hospital on my major project, creating a communication system to reduce psychological distress for patients undergoing lower limb trauma surgery. These procedures often involve urgent reconstruction, leaving little time for patients to comprehend the situation before surgery. The rapid turnaround and short processing time can lead to post-surgical psychological distress, intensified by the drastic change in their limb's appearance.
To address these issues, I am developing an augmented reality healing tool. This tool will allow patients to visualise the wound on their own leg before bandages are removed and see its future healed state, encouraging them to be proactive in their recovery. Additionally, I am creating a comprehensive book to provide essential information for both patients and their families, guiding them through their recovery from this significant life change. This combined approach aims to support patients physically and emotionally during their healing journey.
