The focus of my painting practice is based on the story of an image. What can an image portray? I choose a moment and deconstruct it, whether it's a photo or a memory. It does not matter, as the image is to be destroyed and turned into a monochrome depiction of black lines on white.
From this position, I reconstruct the image, but with a passion absent from its original form. I infuse all of my past experiences into the construction. An image is built with colour, showcasing an atmosphere of emotion. The focus is on the character or characters, from their gaze to their position. Colour flows through their figures, creating tones of emotion and place within the scene. My reconstructions allow the viewer to become intimate with the scenario. An image is transformed into an experience. Like a memory, it is somewhat misty.
