Vivid Stillness
Central to my practice is the exploration of object-oriented ontology, a philosophical framework that considers objects as having their own existence and agency independent of human perception. By infusing slate with domestic narratives, I aim to challenge the viewer’s perception of the material world, inviting them to reconsider their relationship with everyday objects and the environment. This approach also addresses the withdrawn relations objects may have with each other.
Born in Dublin and growing up in South London and Belfast, I have been influenced by a multitude of cultural and domestic experiences. The constant movement between houses and countries has left an indelible mark on my inner world, shaping the themes and motifs that manifest in my work. I seek to evoke a sense of nostalgia for the familiar, while also acknowledging the impermanence of existence.
Through the transformative process of breaking, painting, and assembling slate, I create sculptural paintings that invite the viewer to contemplate the interconnectedness of all things.
