Every day, we all go through the routine of dressing, one leg or sleeve at a time, scarcely giving it a second thought. It’s a simple, mundane task, a part of everyone’s daily ritual. However, for many queer individuals, this isn’t the reality. I’ve been curious about the motivations behind people’s choice of attire each day. Do they consider the company they’ll be in? The places they’ll visit? And does their style vary depending on whether they’re in an urban or rural setting?
This project aims to showcase how queer individuals throughout history had to express themselves through their clothing, silently communicating their identity. It also documents the stories of young queer Irish people, illustrating how times have changed, yet perhaps not as much as we might think.
