Dreams Work; Ruminate Friendship, Attain Serenity
The plywood crescent moon swing invites viewers to sit and relax, presenting as a photo opportunity to “sit on the moon”. This work draws on the modern-day phenomena of photo booths and events where adults can be playful. It is paired with the dreamy glow of a tissue paper star lantern, enhancing the atmosphere of dreamy escapism.
Headphones prompt the viewer to listen to a 6-minute interview-style sound piece and ruminate on the topic of friendship. The artist’s close friends discuss sustaining friendships in adulthood and the challenges involved. Sitting and listening to this sound piece offers the experience of a dreamscape to the viewer.
Exploring themes such as living at home in your twenties, finding calm amongst the storm, peace and comfort, adult friendships and relationships, immersion and the moon, the artist hopes viewers will find a moment of peace and playfulness in her work.
Can this be a universally comforting experience?
