Surroundings
Texture, shape and colour come to bear in the creative space of this body of work entitled, ‘Surroundings’. The images play with cyclical rhythms, drawing on the meditative quality of the ocean’s movement and the ceramic process.
Natural materials are brought into the domestic setting, with nature’s strength somehow tamed under human touch and embodied as a trace. Reflecting on the inspiration for this work, it is the ocean’s texture, shape and colour that invite contemplation of one’s own surroundings and impact.
It poses the question:
What surrounds you? What captures your gaze and brings you into the present moment? What makes you more aware, allowing you to lose yourself, or, conversely find yourself in mindfulness?
