As I see it
‘As I see it’ is a collection of oil and acrylic paintings that show the world through the artist’s impaired eyesight since childhood, and reliving it with the added visual degeneration of age.
Compositions are created using tools that cause similar distortion, taking deliberately ‘bad’ photography to replicate this reality before committing them to canvas. The work explores the effects of multiple conditions from myopia and astigmatism to night blindness, both individually and combined.
What is revealed is an entirely new way of existing that is both dark and uneasy, beautiful and joyful, and sometimes both at the same time. The viewer experiences this different world where, light sources dominate and obliterate their surroundings while also remapping the scene.
