Cé Leis Thú?
‘Cé leis Thú?’ (To whom you belong?) is an interactive site specific installation comprising of inflatables, collage and elements formed from recycled and found materials. It delves into the essence of being a feminist artist operating within the confines of late capitalism and confronts the constraints of our capitalist system and its pervasive surveillance engendered by social media.
The inflatables– repurposed from billboard ads of fast fashion giants–symbolise the commodification of humanity under neoliberalism. Inspired by the DADA movement, which is characterised by its rejection of
traditional aesthetic values and societal norms, and Hannah Höch’s radicalism, my work explores the postwar rebellion against rationalism, juxtaposing the industrial circulation of images then with today’s digital inundation of imagery.
Simultaneously, I employ an ecofeminist lens, intertwining feminism with environmental concerns, to underscore the interconnectedness of patriarchal systems and ecological degradation. Drawing from Donna Haraway’s theories of string figures, the 'Capitalocene’ and the ‘Anthropocene,’ I utilise the concept of connectivity and entanglement to explore the fluidity of identities and relationships. Through my work, I interrogate the conformity demanded by societal constructs and the containment within predetermined roles, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of our contemporary existence amidst the backdrop of a world in flux.
