Waves of Identity in Digital Ripples
Identity is a complex concept that can be influenced by multiple factors. Missing information or gaps of knowledge about one’s life can create questions that lead to a struggle with identity. What does it mean to be human?
Factors such as AI and technology can influence our identity and cause us to lose a sense of who we are. As a result, our identity can become diluted and blurred as technology becomes increasingly part of our everyday lives.
My project began as a self-discovery journey into my own identity and heritage. I immersed myself in everything that can toy with a person’s sense of self - my genetics, heritage, identity, and ideas. Through my research, preserving certain aspects of the digital world in a physical space has become an important concern, as it is a challenge we currently face.
My project aims to explore the distortion of reality in relation to identity, AI, uncanny valley, and masks. The outcomes of my project include: representing the uncanny valley through plaster face casts, documenting the internal struggle with identity and technology through a publication, and portraying the power of AI and the struggle to decipher what is real.
