Producing Motherhood: Unpacking Cultural Bias Towards the Mother Artist
My research is a tapestry woven from diverse threads and is often concerned with femininity and cultural heritage. My dissertation, ‘Producing Motherhood’ explores the social and institutional prejudice faced by artists who are also mothers. I am dedicated to dismantling stereotypes and amplifying the voices of marginalised groups through my writing. Producing Motherhood is an ode to the generations of women who have come before me and enriched the world with their innovation and creativity, only for their contributions to be largely overlooked.
The intersection between art and politics is a topic I am particularly passionate about and I aspire to contribute towards a paradigm shift of inclusivity in the creative sphere. Growing up, there were a myriad of moments where I felt transformed by the experience cultivated within a gallery space; the desire to extend this experience to others has inspired me to pursue a professional career in curation, using it as a vessel to highlight inequality.
