Lámh Eile
Reaching 18 brings new freedom for most, but for those with Down syndrome, it often marks a challenging transition. Commonly described as 'falling off a cliff,' crucial supports disappear, leading to fine motor skill regression and loss of independence.
In my projects, the user is always central. I collaborated closely with clients and staff from Latch-On, rehab centres, and occupational therapists to develop an intervention aimed at mitigating this regression.
‘Lámh Eile’ is a kit that is accompanied with a website that provides carers with knowledge and support to carry out meaningful fine motor activities for adults with Down syndrome. Designed with accessibility in mind, this kit can be utilised both at home and in day service settings, empowering carers to foster sustained independence for life.
