Laminariales
In recent years, the fashion industry has faced increasing scrutiny due to its detrimental environmental impact. However, emerging agricultural-based technologies offer promising solutions that will revolutionise textile production.
‘Laminariales’ explores the intersection of sustainability, agriculture, and fashion. In particular, where the potential of innovative textile production approaches utilises seaweed- a versatile and resilient material. Seaweed is one of the most regenerative organisms on the planet, capable of absorbing Co2 from its environment. This body of work was made using seaweed kelp sheets to promote agricultural-based technologies used in manufacturing, demonstrating how seaweed can serve as a sustainable substitute to address the fundamental issue of textile pollution and waste.
Now is the time to unlock the potential of seaweed as a material for future generations and a more ethical fashion industry. By embracing nature’s resilience and harnessing the versatility of seaweed, we can pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future in fashion.
