Portraits
In my current work, I am exploring the theme of contemporary portraiture, focusing particularly on the dynamic between myself and the sitter, as well as the space that separates us. The figures in my paintings are rendered with clarity, standing out against backgrounds that are loosely defined and tend to recede.
I am fascinated by the boundary between figurative and abstract art. My goal is to create compelling pieces that not only address the human condition but also celebrate the versatility of paint as a medium. The choice of my sitters is crucial; I prefer intimate depictions of everyday life, using my work to probe the relationships I have with those around me.
I am drawn to depicting people in their own environments, engaged in activities they enjoy. My influences include artists such as Jenny Saville, Cecily Brown, Peter Doig, Pierre Bonnard, and Eleanor McCaughey, who all navigate the delicate balance between figurative representation and abstraction in their work.
