Workshop: 'Motanka Marvels - Crafting Our Future Hopes' with MFA graduates Justyna Doherty and Clyde Doyle.
Join us for an immersive workshop where we delve into the art of crafting Motanka (Мотанка) dolls and explore their role in shaping the future. The Motanka (Мотанка) doll is an ancient Ukrainian symbol deeply rooted in tradition and meaning, symbolising prosperity, goodness, and hope for millennia. Reflecting familial unity and the enduring connections across generations. Derived from the Ukrainian term 'motaty' meaning 'to wind', Motanka dolls are crafted from fabric without the use of needles or scissors. They are regarded as guardians of human destiny, with ancestors believing that destiny could not be pierced or cut. Crafted with heartfelt intentions and sincerity, each doll is believed to possess protective powers, safeguarding households and their inhabitants.
.
In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create their own unique Motanka doll, infusing them with personal wishes for themselves, for Ukraine, and for the world. Join us as we intertwine threads of hope and intention through this ancient and meaningful art form, shaping the path to a brighter future.
